Colloqui di Fisica
The Physics of the earthquake source is undoubtedly a relatively
juvenile discipline. Significant (conceptual) progresses have been
made since the early '60s in the ambitious attempt to understand the
plethora of physico chemical, potentially competing, processes taking
place during a faulting episode. Contrary to other fields of science,
seismology can not plan experiments at the scale and in the conditions
of the natural phenomenon and thus it has to rely on the data
collected after real earthquakes. Laboratory experiments, conducted
under restrictive conditions due to technical limitations, give
general information which have to be scaled to the real world.
Geological (field) observations are inherently limited by the frequent
inaccessibility of the seismogenic structures. On the other hand,
theoretical and numerical models represent a powerful and
complementary view of the problem, since they make it possible to
explore, in realistic conditions, the energy dissipating mechanisms
occurring on the fault zones. The grand challenge of seismology
definitively is the earthquake prediction, but efforts at doing this,
based on the relatively incomplete understanding we have of the
physics of earthquakes, have failed. Models of seismic ruptures can
definitively represent an important contribution in this framework.
We will present and discuss the results of state of the art numerical
experiments of synthetic earthquake events, with the special aim to
illustrate the origin of the slip complexity and the pivotal role of
the governing models assumed to govern the traction evolution on a
fault. A complete picture of the fault constitutive models available
for a deterministic description of earthquakes will be given; open
issues and future developments will be also illustrated.

Seminari di Fisica Matematica
A radical philosophical change is unfolding in social and economic
disciplines and it is rapidly developing, offering to applied
mathematicians a number of challenging modeling, analytic, and
computational problems. Roughly speaking, the new emerging point of
view is characterized by an interplay among Economics, Psychology,
and Sociology, which is no longer grounded on the traditional assumption
of rational socio-economic behavior. While the rationale for that
approach, namely that Economics can be highly affected by heterogeneous
individual (rational or irrational) behaviors, reactions, and inter-actions
is widely accepted.
This seminar aims at presenting a critical overview on the state of the
art focusing on conceivable contributions of mathematical sciences.
The presentation focuses on the development of the mathematical kinetic
theory and theoretical tools of stochastic game theory to modeling the
dynamics in sociology and economy referring to large systems of
interacting living entities. Out of this critical overview, some
research perspectives will be proposed.
Ore 15:00, Aula C (via della Vasca Navale 84), Università di Roma III
Seminario di Fisica della materia condensata
In this seminar I will discuss recent advances in the theoretical
and experimental study of superfluid phenomena in ultra cold atomic
gases, with special focus on the propagation of sound at zero and
finite temperature. Both Bose and Fermi gases will be considered
and the role of low dimensionality effects will be explicitly
discussed.

Seminario di Algebra e Geometria
After having introduced the basic definition of \infty-category and stable \infty-category,
we characterize t-structures in stable \infty-categories as suitable quasicategorical factorization
systems. More precisely we show that a t-structure t on a stable \infty-category C is equivalent
to a normal torsion theory F on C, i.e. to a factorization system F=(E,M) where both classes
satisfy the 3-for-2 cancellation property, and a certain compatibility with pullbacks/pushouts.
Ore 16:00, Aula F (largo s. Leonardo Murialdo 1), Università di Roma III
Colloquium di Matematica
This lecture will be devoted to a survey of transcendental number
theory, including some history, the state of the art and some of the
main conjectures, the limits of the current methods and the obstacles
which are preventing from going further.
ricerche sui gas atomici ultra freddi.
assoluto.

ragionevole dubbio?
