Linear elasticity as Gamma-limit of multiwell energies (Derivazione
dell'elasticità lineare come Gamma-limite di energie con pozzi multipli)
(Finite) elasticity energies have a complex non-convex (non-linear) landscape.
However, traditionally linearized elasticity theories are formally derived and used
as an approximation. Indeed, linear elasticity can be rigorously derived from finite
elasticity under the assumption of small loadings in terms of Gamma-convergence.
This was first done in the case of one-well energies with super-quadratic growth
using rigidy estimates and later generalised to different settings, in particular
to the case of multiwell energies where the distance between the energy wells is
very small (comparable to the size of the load). I will consider the case when the
distance between the wells is independent of the size of the load. In this context
I will show that linear elasticity can be derived by adding to the multiwell energy
a singular higher order term which penalises jumps from one well to another.
Finally I will derive linear elasticity from a two-well discrete model, showing that
the role of the singular perturbation term is played in this setting by interactions
beyond nearest neighbours. This talk is based on a joint work with Gianni Dal Maso,
Giuliano Lazzaroni and Mariapia Palombaro.

Ricci flow beyond non-negative curvature conditions
We generalize most of the known Ricci flow invariant non-negative curvature conditions to less
restrictive negative bounds that remain sufficiently controlled for a short time. As an
illustration of the contents of the talk, we prove that metrics whose curvature operator has
eigenvalues greater than -1 can be evolved by the Ricci flow for some uniform time such that
the eigenvalues of the curvature operator remain greater than -C. Here the time of existence
and the constant C only depend on the dimension and the degree of non-collapsedness.
We obtain similar generalizations for other invariant curvature conditions, including positive
biholomorphic curvature in the Kaehler case. We also get a local version of the main theorem.
As an application of our almost preservation results we deduce a variety of gap and smoothing
results of independent interest, including a classification for non-collapsed manifolds with
almost non-negative curvature operator and a smoothing result for singular spaces coming from
sequences of manifolds with lower curvature bounds. We also obtain a short-time existence
result for the Ricci flow on open manifolds with almost non-negative curvature (without
requiring upper curvature bounds). This is a joint work with Richard Bamler (Berkeley)
and Burkhard Wilking (Muenster).

A new notion of tameness
In 1988 Rosay and Rudin described many properties of the group of holomorphic automorphisms of
Cn, n>1. Later on their ideas were applied to more general complex manifolds.
Starting from their work, we will explore an equivalent definition of tameness developed in the
last year in collaboration with R. Andrist.
