The Robust Merton Problem of an Ambiguity Averse Investor
We derive a closed form portfolio optimization rule for an investor who is di
dent about mean return and volatility estimates, and has a CRRA utility.
The novelty is that confidence is here represented using ellipsoidal uncertainty
sets for the drift, given a volatility realization.
This specification a ords a simple and concise analysis, as the optimal portfolio
allocation policy is shaped by a rescaled market Sharpe ratio, computed under the
worst case volatility.
The result is based on a max-min Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs PDE, which extends
the classical Merton problem and reverts to it for an ambiguity-neutral investor.

The integer cohomology algebra of toric arrangements
The topic of this talk is to compute the integer cohomology ring of the
complement of a toric arrangement, giving a description of the toric analogous
of the Orlik-Solomon algebra.
We begin recalling some basic combinatorial invariants and we investigate the
dependency of the cohomology ring from the arrangement's combinatorial data.
To this end, we first consider the real complexified case and we study a morphism
of spectral sequences associated to certain combinatorially defined subcomplexes
of the toric Salvetti category. Then we use a technical argument in order to extend
the results to full generality.
In the case of a non-unimodular arrangement, it is still an open problem to find a
purely combinatorial description of the integer cohomology ring.
This is a joint work with Emanuele Delucchi (Univ. of Fribourg).

Lefschetz fibrations and the Weil-Petersson metric
I will describe recent work with Xuwen Zhu on the precise regularity of
the constant-curvature fibre metrics near the singularities of a Lefschetz
map. Applied to the universal curve over the Knudsen-Deligne-Mumford
compactification of the moduli spaces of pointed Riemann surfaces this
gives a detailed picture of the iterative asymptotic behaviour of the
Weil-Petersson and Tahktajan-Zograf metrics. As time permits I will explain
the anticipated boundary behaviour of harmonic forms for this metric, now
known in the two simplest cases from results due to Gell-Redmann and
Swoboda.

On the inverse function theorem
I will give and prove a local surjection theorem for maps between Banach spaces,
with very weak assumptions (the map will not be C1) and very
strong conclusions (the existence domain is of an order of magnitude larger
than in the classical case). The proof relies on Ekeland's variational
principle. Based on the same principle, I will give an local surjection
theorem for maps between Fréchet spaces (a so-called 'hard' inverse
function theorem) which improves all known results.
This is joint work with Eric Séré.

Enumerative meaning of genus one Gromov-Witten invariants
Enumerative questions have a very long history in Mathematics and have
been subject to a significant revival in the nineties with the
construction of the moduli space of stable maps and the machinery
which allows us to integrate on these very singular spaces. However,
moduli spaces of stable maps have many 'unwanted' components which are
reflected in the intersection numbers.
In this talk I will discuss the meaning of genus one Gromov-Witten
invariants of threefolds.
