The talk presents a generalization of the Hough transform (HT) to special classes of curves: recently, algebraic geometry arguments have been applied to generalize the HT approach to algebraic curves. A computationally efficient generalization of the algorithm for line detection can be implemented in order to automatically recognize profiles described by algebraic curves like rational and elliptic curves. Applications concern segmentation of X-ray Computed Tomography images.
