Degree Programmes

The Department of Mathematics belongs to the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences of Sapienza University. Its curriculum is articulated on a first cycle degree programme in Mathematics (undergraduate, three years, the equivalent of a Bachelors Degree) and two second cycle degree programmes (graduate, two years) in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (Mathematics for applications until academic year 2019/2020).

The first cycle degree programme is the first level of university studies. It lasts for three years. To graduate, students must acquire 180 university educational credits (CFU). The purpose of the first cycle degree programme in Mathematics is to guarantee a general preparation in the basic and core subject areas of Mathematics.
From AY 2022-2023 new first cycle degree programme in Mathematical Sciences for Artificial Intelligence.

The second cycle degree programme is the second level of university studies. It lasts for two years. To graduate, students must acquire 120 university educational credits (CFU).
The purpose of the second cycle degree programme in Mathematics is to provide advanced training and high level qualifications in one or more areas of Mathematics.
The main purpose of the second cycle degree programme in Applied Mathematics is to train a mathematician able to process models of the real world and to use and develop analytical, numerical and statistical methods for their solution, so that it is able to interact with experts in application areas outside of mathematics itself.

All activities take place at the Department of Mathematics Guido Castelnuovo within the campus of Sapienza University.
