Abstract: For a uniform magnetic field, we provide a decomposition of operators commuting with the associated magnetic translations. As an application, we rewrite the energy per unit surface for an electronic system with 2d symmetry as a function of the magnetic field intensity. We also investigate the ground state of such a system. Besides, we also derive the Thomas-Fermi-like energy density in 2d and 3d.
