In this talk, we will present recent results on using existing 3D printer hardware to reproduce the look of physical materials. We will show that 3D printing can be seen as an optimization approach and introduce a method to reproduce isotropic and anisotropic reflectance functions. We will then discuss future directions and, time permitting, we will quickly show how a variety of our 3D printing problems can be also seen as optimization.
