Research areas

"The research activity in Probability focuses on random geometric structures and stochastic processes, mainly arising from statistical physics, with applications to materials science and neuroscience.

Research topics include the large-scale behavior of random walks and particle systems in random environments and graphs through stochastic homogenization, equilibrium statistical mechanics models such as the Bose gas, dimers, and O(N) spin systems, as well as random growth and aggregation phenomena. On the side of non-equilibrium statistical physics and stochastic dynamics, research includes interacting particle systems, quantum Markov semigroups, the Schrödinger problem, metastability, random interfaces, neural and voter models, self-organized criticality, stochastic differential equations, and stochastic fluid mechanics.

These topics are studied both from the viewpoint of modeling and through the development of mathematical tools for the rigorous analysis of collective phenomena."
