We will discuss the relationships of the Monge problem with a common differential model in granular matter theory. We will show that the Monge problem permits to prove existence and uniqueness/multiplicity of solution for the PDEs involved in the model in the stationary case. If time permits we will introduce two open problem related to the results above.
