This talk is concerned with an optimal control problem and the description of reachable set for scalar conservation laws with discon- tinuous flux in one space dimension. Regarding the optimal control problem we first prove the existence of a minimizer and then we prescribe an algorithm to compute this. The same method also then applies to compute the initial data control. The proof relies on the explicit formula for the conservation laws with the discontinuous flux and the finer properties of the characteristics. This is a joint work with Adimurthi and P. Marcati.
