We suggest you go through this checklist before leaving: print and take with you the following material.
The Workshop will take place in the building of Dipartimento di Matematica of "Università La Sapienza" (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and at the Dipartimento di Matematica of "Università Roma Tre" (Friday). Lectures at La Sapienza will be given at the INdAM lecture room (first floor), or in the larger Aula III.
The weather in Roma in June is expected to be relatively hot. The average maximum temperature is around 27°C, while the minimum is around 17°C.
Surface public transportation in Rome is served by ATAC. Their route planner is a very useful tool.
Subway in Rome is served by "Met.Ro.". Their (Java-enabled) interactive map can be useful.
From Fiumicino Airport you can reach Roma Termini (the main railway station in Rome) using a non-stop train service, called "Leonardo Express", which covers the 37 km in around 31 minutes. A ticket costs 11 Euros (as of June 3rd 2009) and can be also purchased online at FS (search for a connection between "fiumicino airport" and "rome termini"). A Leonardo Express train leaves every half hour in each direction.
In particular, from Fiumicino Airport to Termini Station, first run is at 6:36 in the morning, with trains running at 6 and 36 minutes after the hour. The last train of the day departs at 23.36 (11:36pm).
After you've picked up your luggage, follow the signs to "Stazione FS/Railway Station". You'll have to go up 2 floors to find it. If you didn't purchase it online, buy a ticket "Per Termini" at the FS ticket counter or from one of the machines in the station. You must validate your ticket by inserting it in the validation machine before you enter the train.
In case you're thinking about a taxi, it costs about 40 Euros in the day and more at night.
The main entrance for La Sapienza is located at "Piazzale Aldo Moro". You can reach Piazzale Aldo Moro taking Bus 310. Get off the bus at the fourth stop (the second stop that you find in "Viale dell'Università") and then walk for 200 mt along "Viale delle Scienze" until you reach Piazzale Aldo Moro (check this map). The bus tickets must be purchased at the news-stands (inside the railway station) before you step into the bus, and they must be validated using the machines provided on the buses.
Alternatively, you can walk from Termini to Piazzale Aldo Moro. With the tracks on your back, turn right. When outside, you should be on "Via Marsala" (look on the other side of the street, you should see "Caffè Trombetta": try a coffe and/or a "tramezzino", it is worthwhile!). Then follow this Google map route.
Use this map of La Sapienza to reach the Matematica building (right side on the map). Enter the building, then take the corridor on your right and follow it round to a staircase. Then go up to the first floor where you find the door of INdAM on your left.
On Friday the meeting will take place in the "Aula Magna del Rettorato", Università Roma Tre, situated in "Via Ostiense 159", close to the station "San Paolo" of metro B (blue line). Detailed directions will be given during the conference. Briefly, to go to Roma Tre, use the subway map of Rome: line B (blue on the map). Metro B stations close to La Sapienza are Policlinico and Castro Pretorio. Go out at "Basilica San Paolo" station, and walk 10 minutes.
