From Synthesis to Rational Synthesis: a Logic-Based Approach for Multi-Agent Systems Verification
Synthesis is the problem of programming an intelligent agent and its interaction with the environment in a way that its behaviour is correct by construction, that is, it fulfils a given task no matter how the environment reacts. The solution to this problem can be interpreted as the winning strategy in a suitably defined two-player (formal) game. Rational Synthesis (RS) is a recent evolution of Synthesis, in which the setting is not viewed as an adversarial dispute, but rather as a Multi-Agent System, where each agent has their own specification. In terms of games, RS corresponds to no longer maximizing an individual payoff against all possible environment's behaviours (two-player zero-sum), but rather synthesising a strategy profile that is in some sort of equilibrium, i.e., prevents agents to improve payoff by deviating from it (multi-player nonzero-sum). I will give an overview to the Synthesis and Rational Synthesis, presenting recent results and developments, and showing how the logic-based approach comes in very handy for representing and solving these problems. Finally, I will outline some current and future direction I am taking within the field.

Robust Fourier fingerprints for crystals and generalizations
I will start by giving an introductory overview of different notions of generalized crystals (including quasicrystals), unified by the requirement that their Fourier transforms are atomic. Then we study the effect of random perturbations on the Fourier transform of such generalized crystal. The basic result I will present is that under mixing assumptions on the random perturbations, the Fourier transform of a random perturbation is almost surely equal to the Fourier transform of the unperturbed crystal, multiplied by the Fourier transform of the law of the noise. Thus for example for Gaussian i.i.d. perturbations with known law, the perturbed crystal's Fourier transform allows to recover the initial crystal. The case of (perturbations of) lattices is due to Yakir, and we weaken independence hypotheses and extend the theory to quasicrystals, and lattices in finite groups, Heisenberg groups, and other nilpotent groups. This is joint work with Rodolfo Viera from UC Chile.

Baxter Q-operators, QQ-systems and the shifted Yangian
I plan to discuss the construction of Baxter Q-operators within the framework of the Quantum Inverse Scattering Method. The method follows the standard procedure for the transfer matrix construction of spin chains that was developed by Faddeev and collaborators but employs Lax matrices with an infinite-dimensional auxiliary space. Those Lax matrices do not fit into the standard Yangian of Drinfeld but can be understood in the context of the shifted Yangian. The Q-operators satisfy a set of functional relations that are known as QQ-relations that can be seen as the successor of the famous Bethe equations. In the case of the Yangian of su(n), the full set of functional relations can be derived from the Q-operators. Beyond su(n) new obstacles arise in the construction of Q-operators which will be discussed in the example of so(2r).

Large Deviations of Kac’s Random Walk & the H-Theorem
We consider the dynamical large deviations of Kac’s model for the Boltzmann Equation in the many-particle limit \(N\to\infty\). With the expected rate function, the large deviations lower bound is only true on a restricted class of paths, and we find counterexamples to a global lower bound related to Lu and Wennberg’s energy non-conserving solutions to the Boltzmann equation: We will give a direct proof by mimicking the argument of Lu and Wennberg. On the other hand, the class of paths where we have a matching upper and lower bounds is sufficiently rich to rederive the celebrated Boltzmann H-Theorem.

Critical points of the Moser-Trudinger functional on closed surfaces
Given a 2-dimensional closed surface, we will show that the Moser-Trudinger functional has critical points of arbitrarily high energy. Since the functional is too critical to directly apply to it the known variational methods (in particular the Struwe monotonicity trick), we will approximate it by subcritical ones, which in fact interpolate it to a Liouville-type functional from conformal geometry. Hence our result will also unify and give common results for these two apparently unrelated problems. This is a joint work with F. De Marchis, A. Malchiodi and P-D. Thizy.

Computations in the Poincaré torsor and the quadratic Chabauty method
We know by Falting's theorem that a curve \(C\) of genus \(g>1\) defined over the rationals has a finite number of rational points, but there is no general procedure to provably compute the set \(C(\mathbb{Q})\). When the rank of the Mordell-Weil group \(J(\mathbb{Q})\) (with \(J\) the Jacobian of \(C\)) is smaller than \(g\) we can use Chabauty method, i.e. we can embed \(C\) in \(J\) and, after choosing a prime p, we can view \(C(\mathbb{Q})\) as a subset of the intersection of \(C(\mathbb{Q}_p)\) and the closure of \(J(\mathbb{Q})\) inside the p-adic manifold \(J(\mathbb{Q}_p)\); this intersection is always finite and computable up to finite precision. Minhyong Kim has generalized this method by inspecting (possibly non-abelian) quotients of the fundamental group of \(C\). His ideas have been made effective in some new cases by Balakrishnan, Dogra, Muller, Tuitman and Vonk: their "quadratic Chabauty method" works when the rank of the Mordell-Weil group is strictly less than \(g + s -1\) (with s the rank of the Neron-Severi group of \(J\)). In the seminar we will give a reinterpretation of the quadratic Chabauty method, only using the Poincaré torsor of \(J\) and a little of formal geometry, and we will show how to make it effective. This is joint work with Bas Edixhoven.

Clustering phenomena in low dimensions for a boundary Yamabe problem
We consider the classical geometric problem of prescribing scalar and boundary mean curvature via conformal deformation of the metric on a n-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold. We deal with the case of negative scalar curvature and positive boundary mean curvature. It is known that if n=3 all the blow-up points are isolated and simple. In this work we prove that this is not true anymore in low dimensions (that is n=4, 5, 6, 7). In particular, we construct a solution with a clustering blow-up boundary point (i.e. non-isolated), which is non-umbilic and minimizes the norm of the trace-free second fundamental form of the boundary.
