Quinpi, or going implicit for nonlinear hyperbolic equations
Many interesting applications of hyperbolic systems of equations are stiff, in the sense that restrictive CFL conditions are imposed by fields that one is not really interested in tracking accurately. A typical solution in these cases is to resort to implicit time integration, but in the field of high order accurate numerical schemes for hyperbolic equations this is made very difficult by the extreme nonlinearity of the reconstruction operators. In this talk I will first review an approach, that we called Quinpi, to treat scalar nonlinear hyperbolic equations with implicit timestepping. Its main ingredients are a third order Central WENO reconstruction, a third order DIRK time integrator and a novel idea of time limiting. The scheme is linearized as much as possible via first order accurate predictors for Runge-Kutta stages and the final scheme contains only the nonlinearity of the flux function: in particular it can be applied by solving only linear systems for linear equations. The limiting in time is needed to control spurious oscillations arising from the fact that waves can cross more than one computational cell in each timestep. Next I will show some preliminary results on the extension of the approach to systems of hyperbolic equations. Joint work with G. Puppo and G. Visconti

Deformation of invariant connections
Suppose a group acts on a manifold and the action can be lifted to a principal bundle over it. We consider invariant connections and their gauge equivalence classes. When the base space is a single group orbit, the invariant connections were studied by H.C.Wang in the 1950s. We show that in general, the space of such connections decomposes according to elements in a group cohomology. We further study the geometry and analysis of the space of invariant connection.

Metastability of Glauber dynamics with inhomogeneous coupling disorder
I will first introduce a general class of mean-field-like spin systems with random couplings that comprises both the Ising model on inhomogeneous dense random graphs and the randomly diluted Hopfield model. I will then present quantitative estimates of metastability in large volumes at fixed temperatures when these systems evolve according to a Glauber dynamics, i.e. where spins flip with Metropolis rates at inverse temperature \(\beta\). The main result identifies conditions ensuring that with high probability the system behaves like the corresponding system where the random couplings are replaced by their averages. More precisely, we prove that the metastability of the former system is implied with high probability by the metastability of the latter. Moreover, we consider relevant metastable hitting times of the two systems and find the asymptotic tail behaviour and the moments of their ratio. This result provides an extension of the results known for the Ising model on the the Erdos–Renyi random graph. Our proofs use the potential-theoretic approach to metastability in combination with concentration inequalities. Based on a joint work in collaboration with Anton Bovier, Frank den Hollander, Saeda Marello and Martin Slowik.

Some results on moduli spaces of sheaves on K3 surfaces
I will report on some recent results on the geometry of irreducible symplectic varieties that are deformation of moduli spaces of sheaves on K3 surfaces. In the first part of the talk I will introduce the main characters of this story and I will talk about their deformations: this will also include a joint work in progress with A. Perego and A. Rapagnetta on (undesingularisable) singular moduli spaces of sheaves. In the second part I will mostly focus on moduli spaces of O'Grady type and their symplectic desingularisation, presenting an older result on their ample cone (joint with G. Mongardi), and illustrating a recent application to symplectic automorphisms (joint with L. Giovenzana, A. Grossi and D.C. Veniani).

Quasilinear elliptic problems with changing-sign nonlinearities
The aim of this talk is to prove the validity of Gibbons' conjecture for the quasilinear elliptic equation \( −\Delta_p u = f(u) \) on \( \mathbb R^N\). In addition, we are able to deduce the monotonicity of positive solutions to the same equation in half-spaces under zero Dirichlet boundary conditions. Both the results hold true for \( (2N + 2)/(N + 2) < p < 2 \) and for a general class of regular changing-sign nonlinearities \( f \). The techniques used in the proof of the main results are based on a fine use of comparison and maximum principles and on an adaptation of the moving plane method to quasilinear elliptic equations in unbounded domains.
