Fluctuations and mixing for random growth models
Obtaining a rigorous understanding of the formation of complex patterns in nature is a long-standing problem, which has motivated the introduction of several probabilistic models in the Mathematics and Physics literature. In this talk I will present some of these models, both discrete and continuous, discussing asymptotic behavior, fluctuations and mixing and presenting results obtained in collaboration with L. Levine, J. Norris and A. Turner.

Monotonicity and Symmetry of Solutions to a Non-cooperative System of Gross-Pitaevskii-type
The talk is devoted to the study of the qualitative properties of solutions to a non-cooperative elliptic system arising in Bose-Einstein condensation. We show a universal and sharp \(L^{\infty}\)-estimate, as well as the monotonicity and the one-dimensional symmetry of any solution satisfying the natural asymptotic conditions at infinity.

Mathematical modelling and methods in drug delivery systems

Free field realization of twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra at level zero and its application
Twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex algebra \(\mathcal{H}\) is an important example of vertex algebra with many applications in the representation theory and conformal field theory. If the level of the corresponding Heisenberg vertex subalgebra is non-zero, \(\mathcal{H}\) is isomorphic to the tensor product of Heisenberg vertex algebra and the (universal or simple) Virasoro vertex algebra. The study of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex algebra at the level zero was initiated by Y. Billig motivated by applications to the toroidal Lie algebras. It turns out that level zero has another interesting application - in realization of a class of vertex algebras which appear in physics literature under the name of Galilean algebra. I shall present a joint work with D. Adamovic on bosonic realization of this algebra and its highest weight representations. Furthermore I will discuss on some of many applications of this realization.

Mass, Scalar Curvature, Kähler Geometry, and All That
Given a complete Riemannian manifold that looks enough like Euclidean space at infinity, physicists have defined a quantity called the “mass” that measures the asymptotic deviation of the geometry from the Euclidean model. After first providing a self-contained introduction to the key underlying geometric concepts, I will go on to explain a simple formula, discovered in joint work with Hajo Hein, for the mass of any asymptotically locally Euclidean (ALE) Kähler manifold. When the metric is actually AE (asymptotically Euclidean), our formula not only implies the positive mass theorem for Kähler metrics, but also yields a Penrose-type inequality for the mass. I will also briefly indicate some recent technical improvements that allow one to prove these results assuming only minimal metric fall-off assumptions at infinity.

Continuous-time Quantum Walks
Quantum analogs of classical random walks have been defined in quantum information theory as a useful concept to implement algorithms. Due to interference effects, statistical properties of quantum walks can drastically differ from their classical counterparts, leading to much faster computations. In this talk, we shall discuss various statistical properties of continuous-time quantum walks on a lattice, such as: survival properties of quantum particles in the presence of traps (i.e. a quantum generalization of the Donsker-Varadhan stretched exponential law), the growth of a quantum population in the presence of a source, quantum return probabilities and Loschmidt echoes.

Einstein Metrics, Harmonic Forms, and Conformally Kähler Geometry
There are certain compact 4-manifolds, such as real and complex hyperbolic 4-manifolds, 4-tori, and K3, where we completely understand the moduli space of Einstein metrics. But there are vast numbers of other 4-manifolds where we know that Einstein metrics exist, but cannot currently determine whether or not there are other Einstein metrics on them that are qualitatively different from the currently-known ones. In this lecture, I will first present a characterization of the known Einstein metrics on Del Pezzo surfaces that I discovered several years ago, and then describe a delicate generalization which I obtained only quite recently.
