Almost-periodic solutions for the NLS with parameters
I shall discuss a recent result with L. Biasco and J.
Massetti on the existence of almost-periodic solutions for the NLS on
the circle with external parameters. After discussing the (very few)
known results I shall describe our strategy, which is quite flexible
and can be applied also for the construction of non maximal tori.

Elliptic boundary value problems with measurable coefficients and explosive boundary conditions
In this talk I present the main results contained in my Phd thesis. It follows two different directions,
always related to elliptic boundary value problems. The first one concerns existence and regularity results
for a wide class of non coercive operators with convection or drift lower order terms.
The second one focuses on asymptotic behaviour of large solutions, namely solutions that
blows up to infinity at the boundary of the domain, to semilinear elliptic problems.

Equazioni di Cahn-Hilliard e proprieta' di separazione delle soluzioni
Si consideri una lega binaria costituita da due metalli (p.es. Cu-Ni,
Al-Zn, Fe-Cr) di concentrazioni c_1 and c_2, rispettivamente, dove
una fase (uniformemente) mista in tempo finito? Piu' precisamente,
esiste una costante r in (0,1), dipendente soltanto dalla massa
totale, tale che c assume valori soltanto in [r,1-r] da un certo tempo
in poi?
tale argomento.

Beyond Diophantine Wannier diagrams: gap labelling for Bloch-Landau Hamiltonians
In 1978 Wannier discovered a Diophantine relation expressing the
integrated density of states of a gapped group of bands of the
Hofstadter Hamiltonian as a linear function of the magnetic field flux
with integer slope. I will show how to extend this relation to a gap
labelling theorem for any 2D Bloch-Landau Hamiltonian operator and to
certain non-covariant systems having slowly varying magnetic fields.
The integer slope will be interpreted as the Chern character of the
projection onto the space of occupied states. The talk is based on a
joint work with H. Cornean and D. Monaco.

Discovery mathematical models from experimental data
In this talk, we will present two recent techniques to discover mathematical models from data using machine
learning techniques. In the first part of the talk, we advocate the use of Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD),
an equation-free method, to approximate the data with a linear model. DMD is a spatio-temporal matrix decomposition
of a data matrix that correlates spatial features while simultaneously associating the activity with periodic temporal
behavior. With this decomposition, one can obtain a reduced dimensional surrogate model and use for future state
predictions or extrapolate missing information from the data. In the second part, we address the problem of
discovering nonlinear ODEs and PDEs from data. We will show that we can recover the mathematical problem by
means of sparse optimization methods such as LASSO and RIDGE regression. Examples and applications of the methods
will be showed during the talk.

Autonomous evolution of electron speeds in a thermostatted system: exact results
We investigate a dynamical system consisting of N particles moving on
a d-dimensional torus under the action of an electric field E with a
Gaussian thermostat to keep the total energy constant. The particles
are also subject to tochastic collisions which randomize direction but
do not change the speed. We prove that in the van Hove scaling limit,
E -> 0 and t -> t/E^2, the trajectory of the speeds v_i is described
by a stochastic differential equation corresponding to diffusion on a
constant energy sphere. Our results are based on splitting the
system's evolution into a "slow" process and an independent "noise".
We show that the noise, suitably rescaled, converges to a Brownian
motion. Then we employ the Ito-Lyons continuity theorem to identify the
limit of the slow process.

Plancherel theory for real spherical spaces
The talk will be accessible to a general audience. We wish to explain on how to relate the spectral
theory of a real spherical space to the orbit structure of a smooth toroidal compactification. When
specialized to real reductive groups we recover in an elementary way large parts of the Plancherel
theorem of Harish-Chandra. Joint work with P. Delorme, F. Knop and H. Schlichtkrull.

On the dynamics of a charged particle in magnetic fields with cylindrical symmetry and related geometrical problems
We will see some results about planar curves with prescribed
curvature. This subject is rooted in the study of the dynamics of a
particle in a magnetic field with cylindrical symmetry. We discuss the
existence of bounded, non round, possibly closed curves with
prescribed radial curvature and "high energy" (joint work with
Gabriele Cora). This problem admits also a higher dimensional version,
regarding toroidal surfaces in the Euclidean 3-space, with prescribed
mean curvature. Also on this subject some recent results (obtained in
collaboration with Monica Musso and Alessandro Iacopetti) will be
displayed.

Coends and proof equivalence in second order multiplicative linear logic
Proof nets for multiplicative linear logic (MLL) provide canonical
representations of proofs: they are permutation-independent, separable
and are injectively interpreted in the relational and coherent
semantics. None of these properties scales to second order
multiplicative linear logic (MLL2): proof nets for MLL2 are not
invariant with respect to all valid permutations, are not separable
and are not injectively interpreted in either the relational or
coherent semantics. This problem is related to the interpretation of
the existential quantifier. In categorical terms this should
correspond to a coend, a special colimit defined in terms of dinatural
transformations. However, usual proof nets violate the diagrams
defining a coend. Starting from this intuition, we investigate the
problem of defining canonical proof nets for MLL2 as a coherence
problem for coends over a compact-closed category and we show some
results concerning some fragments of MLL2.
