Introduction to the homogenization of singularly perturbed operators I
In the course two types of singularly perturbed operators will be considered. First we will consider homogenization problems for periodic linear convection-diffusion operators with a large convection term. Our goal is to show that these operators admit homogenization in moving coordinates. We will determine the effective speed and diffusion matrix and then prove convergence. The second part of the course will focus on homogenization of spectral problem for a symmetric second-order elliptic operator with locally periodic coefficients and a large potential. We will construct the limit spectral problem and prove the convergence of the eigenpairs.

Large deviations for the stochastic Allen-Cahn approximation of the mean curvature flow
We consider the sharp interface limit for the Allen-Cahn equation on the three dimensional torus with deterministic initial condition and deterministic or stochastic forcing terms. In the deterministic case, we discuss the convergence of solutions to the mean curvature flow, possibly with a forcing term, in the spirit of the pioneering work of Tom Ilmanen (JDG '93). In addition we analyze the convergence of the corresponding action functionals to a limiting functional described in terms of varifolds. In the second part I will comment on related results for the stochastic case, describing how this limiting functional enters in the large deviation asymptotics for the laws of the corresponding processes in the joint sharp interface and small noise limit.

Supersymmetry and Ward identities as a tool to study functional integrals
In the context of field theory Ward identities are functional identites generated by internal symmmetries of the model. They generally appear as relations between Feynman diagrams, allowing to simplify the perturbative expansion, and in some cases even to close the Schwinger-Dyson equation. A natural question is whether symmetry-generated identities may also help to study models where standard renormalization group techniques do not apply. In this context, in collaboration with M. Zirnbauer and T. Spencer, we considered a nonlinear sigma model, which is the key ingredient in the construction and study of certain stochastic processes with memory. The corresponding integral is invariant under supersymmetric transformations that generate an infinite family of Ward identities. Though these identities have no interpretation as Feynman diagrams, they proved to be a key ingredient in the analysis of the model.

De Giorgi's approach to hyperbolic Cauchy problems
We discuss an extension of some results, obtained by E. Serra and P. Tilli ('12, '16), concerning an original conjecture by E. De Giorgi ('96) on a purely minimization approach to the Cauchy problem for the defocusing nonlinear wave equation. Precisely, we show how to extend the techniques developed by Serra and Tilli to the case of nonhomogeneous second order hyperbolic equations (possibly in presence of dissipative terms). This is a joint work with P. Tilli.

Pathologies for Fano varieties and singularities in positive characteristic
In this talk, after motivating the study of singularities in the context of the Minimal Model Program, we will explain the connection between vanishing on Fano-type varieties and cohomological properties of singularities. In particular, we will explain how to construct del Pezzo surfaces in low characteristic violating Kodaira vanishing and how to deduce the existence of klt not Cohen-Macaulay threefold singularities. Time permitting, we will discuss some possible obstructions to the existence of flips.
