Asymptotic analysis of microscopic impenetrability constraints
for atomistic systems
We consider systems of interactions in a triangular lattice which forbid
change of orientations of triangles. We analyze the macroscopic effect
of such a constraint on fractures and related analytical difficulties.

Kahler-Einstein metrics on Fano varieties, and their compact moduli spaces I
The aim of the mini-course is to give an overview of recent results about the existence
of Kahler-Einstein (KE) metrics on Fano varieties and to explain how such canonical metrics
are related to the construction of 'nice and natural' compact moduli spaces of certain
stable Fano varieties. We will start by a discussion of classical results about the
problem of existence (and obstruction to) of KE metrics on Fano manifolds, introducing
the 'tools' used in the subject. Next we will be focused on the algebricity of
Gromov-Hausdorff limits of polarized Kähler manifolds under non-collapsing hypothesis
and its consequences: such limits are of fundamental importance both in the proof of
the equivalence between existence of KE metrics and K-stability (the so-called
'Yau-Tian-Donaldson' conjecture in the Fano case) and in the construction of
canonical compactifications of moduli of KE/K-stable manifolds. Finally, I will
address the problem of existence of singular metrics for smoothable K-stable Fano
varieties and their role in the moduli compactification, together with a discussion
of the 'explicit' two dimensional Del Pezzo case and of natural open problems.

The game p-Laplacian, from numerical results to analytic hypotheses
I will discuss how the numerical analysis of the game p-Laplacian, developed
with Falcone, Finzi Vita and Giorgi has led to new insights into the behavior
of that operator. Particular results obtained with collaborators including
a mean value property for p-harmonic functions, a concrete realization of
Wolff's example used in the proof that p-harmonic measure is not additive,
and a discussion of the local behavior of the Poisson problem for the game
p-Laplacian in a corner.

Secondary Invariants in K-Theory
A pair of homotopy equivalent manifolds or a metric with positive scalar
curvature on a Riemannian spin manifold give a vanishing analytic index
(for the signature operator and the Dirac operator respectively).
These situations produce secondary invariants (rho-classes) as lifting
of K-homology classes to certain groups of K-theory.
We define these invariants in the context of the Lipschitz manifolds and
in the Lie groupoids setting, generalizing the Piazza-Schick construction
in two different directions. Moreover we establish the cobordism invariance
of the rho-classes (for suitable types of cobordisms).
We also state a product formula that, under suitable conditions, gives
stability results for the secondary invariants. Finally we will compare
the Coarse and the Lie groupioids approach, establishing their equivalence.

Well-balanced schemes for 1+1 kinetic models: Caseology and
matrix-balancing
Collisional kinetic equations constitute an example of entropy-dissipating
dynamics for which a large-time behavior results of a delicate balancing
of convection (free transport) and reactions (collisions, tumbling effects,
degenerate diffusion). The ability of a numerical scheme to capture
correctly such a balance is easily checked by means of moments of the
kinetic density: positivity, total mass preservation, constant macroscopic
fluxes, ... etc. Well-balanced schemes, a term coined in 1996, proceed
by handling numerically both convection and collisions as a whole 'lumped'
discrete operator. Relying on seminal contributions of 'spectral methods
of kinetic theory' (sometimes called 'Caseology'), accurate schemes can
be built onto a S-matrix formalism, along with techniques of 'matrix
balancing' (e.g. Sinkhorn algorithm).

precedenti'.

Fano fourfolds of K3 type
A Fano fourfold is said to be of K3 type if its derived category
of coherent sheaves has a semiorthogonal decomposition consisting
of several exceptional objects and a derived category of a
noncommutative K3 surface. Cubic fourfolds form a family of very
interesting examples of this sort. They are interesting because of
their intriguing birational behavior, and of their relation to
hyperkahler geometry, and most probably the noncommutative K3
category is responsible for both features. I will talk about other
examples of Fano fourfolds of K3 type.

Line bundles over noncommutative spaces
We give a Pimsner algebra construction of noncommutative lens spaces as
'direct sums of line bundles' and exhibit them as 'total spaces' of
certain principal bundles over noncommutative weighted projective spaces.
For each quantum lens space one gets an analogue of the classical Gysin
sequence which can be used to give explicit geometric representatives of
the K-theory classes of the lens spaces.
