We will describe the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process
(TASEP) on a ring, we will review some well known result about it,
in the sequential and parallel cases, and we will discuss a very
interesting and partially open problem, which is the blockage (or
slow-bond) problem. We will discuss the exact solution of the
problem in a particular case.
The aim is to describe a prototype of an irreversible dynamics
in which a small local perturbation influences globally the
stationary distribution. Joint work with Carlo Lancia and Riccardo Mariani.

Let C(d,k) and AC(d,k) be the largest orders of a Cayley graph
and a Cayley graph based on an abelian group, respectively, of degree d
and diameter k. When k=2, it is well-known that C(d,2)
is at most d2+1 with equality if and only if the graph is a Moore graph.
In the abelian case, AC(d,2) is at most d2/2+d+1.
In this talk, we consider the construction of large graphs of diameter 2
using generalized difference sets. Our results improve the known lower bound
on AC(d,2). This is a joint work with Alexander Pott.

We study maximum coloring of sparse random geometric graphs, in an
arbitrary but constant dimension, with a constant number of colors. We
show laws of large numbers as well as central limit theorem type
results for the maximum number of vertices that can be properly
colored. Since this functional is neither scale-invariant nor smooth,
we design tools that with the main method of sub-additivity allow us
to show the weak and strong laws. Additionally, by proving the
Lindeberg conditions, we show the normal limiting distribution for
this functional. Joint work with Sem Borst.
