The talk will be about the Kuramoto model of globally coupled phase oscillators, a disordered model
with deterministic dynamics that has become the prototype model for synchronization phenomena in
large families of interacting « units » (cells, individuals, circuit components...). After an
introduction about motivations, known results and open questions, I will present recent results
obtained in collaboration with Bastien Fernandez and David Gerard-Varet on the continuum limit of
the model with individual frequencies drawn from a distribution with density of class C^n (n > 3).
The main result is that the Kuramoto order parameter asymptotically vanishes (with polynomial rate
n) for every trajectory issued from sufficiently small C^n perturbation, under a suitable condition
on the coupling parameter K. Such a condition coincides, for basic examples of frequency
distributions, with the classical « K < K_c » condition one finds in the literature. The proof uses
techniques from the Analysis of PDEs and closely follows recent proofs of the nonlinear Landau
damping in the Vlasov equation and Vlasov-HMF model.

We review recent developments, concerning one-dimensional open quantum systems, connected at the
ends to dissipative baths, which sustain global gradients of magnetization and energy across the
system. A quantum Master equation in the Lindblad form, describing a time evolution of a reduced
density matrix, has a fixed point, for which an exact solution in the form of a Matrix Product
Ansatz can be written, for several well-known integrable models. Consistency conditions define
algebraic relations for the auxiliary operators, which are related to a bulk symmetry of the
Hamiltonian. Nonequilibrium quantum steady states, including scaling limit, can thus be
investigated, which is illustrated on an example of a driven XXX Heisenberg spin chain with boundary
reservoirs targeting different boundary polarizations. A transfer matrix of the problem has an
underlying Yang-Baxter structure, which hints at the full integrability of the Liouvillean dynamics.

opportunamente definite. Nel seminario presenteremo alcuni risultati in tal senso, ottenuti
recentemente in collaborazione con M. Bertsch, M. M. Porzio e F. Smarrazzo.

Isothermal and adiabatic transformations are the basic thermodynamics transformations composing
Carnot cycles. I will illustrate how to obtain them from a microscopic dynamics under a diffusive
space-time scaling limit. The deterministic irreversible thermodynamic transformations are given by
a set of diffusive equations, and the quasi-static reversible transformations are obtained by a
further time scaling for limiting slow variation of the applied force. I will also deal with
"isothermal" transitions between stationary non equilibrium states.

In the theory of N-body Schroedinger operators the concept of dilation analyticity introduced by
Aguilar and Combes and Balslev and Combes had tremendous success in studying the essential spectrum
of such operators. The key idea in these two papers is that the unitary group of dilations can be
used to transform the Schroedinger operator into a one parameter family of operators which admits an
analytic continuation into a strip in the complex plane. The virtue of this continuation is that its
essential recedes from the real line making a more detailed analysis possible. An application of
this concept to time dependent perturbation theory inquantum mechanics was later derived by Simon.
The generator of the group of dilations turns out to be a conjugate operator for the Schroedinger
operator under examination. This leads us to the question, whether the techniques developed by
Balslev and Combes can be done in an abstract framework starting from Mourre theory. In this talk an
affirmative answer is provided in a systematic fashion by replacing the group of dilations with the
unitary group generated by an abstract conjugate operator. Key ingredients are the use of the Mourre
estimate and known results on abstract spectral deformation techniques by Hunziker and Sigal.

rango doppio.

Seminario di Geometria
In this talk, I will describe the geometry of threefolds obtained by blowing-up curves in smooth
cubic threefolds, and Sarkisov links that arise. As we will see, the geometry of cubic threefolds
seems to be as rich as the one of rational threefolds, at least from a qualitative point of view.

We outline a program to construct and analyze the correlation functions of interacting many Boson
systems in the subcritical phase and at the critical point. It uses a rigorous representation of the
correlations by oscillatory coherent state functional integrals, which are investigated in the low
temperature regime by single and multi-scale cluster expansions similar to the ones of constructive
quantum field theory.

questioni.
