The asymmetric simple exclusion process plays the role of a paradigm to study various aspects of
non-equilibrium statistical physics. It is a minimal model of interacting particles with transport,
that displays interesting collective behaviour and breaks time-reversal symmetry. This system
appears as a building block in more realistic descriptions of low-dimensional transport with
constraints. During the last twenty years, a large number of exact results have been derived for the
exclusion process. The aim of this talk is to review the main techniques used to study this system
and some of the important results that have been obtained.

We discuss the "Higgs" amplitude mode in the relativistic quantum O(N) model in two space
dimensions. This model describes the critical regime of many condensed-matter systems, including
antiferromagnets and the superfluid--Mott-insulator transition of bosons in an optical lattice.
After a brief introduction to the nonperturbative renormalization group, we show how this approach
can be used to compute the O(N)-invariant scalar susceptibility in the vicinity of the T=0 quantum
critical point. In the T=0 ordered phase, we find a well defined Higgs resonance for N=2 (in
agreement with quantum Monte Carlo simulations). The resonance does not exist in the T=0 disordered
phase but persists at finite temperature below the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition
temperature. For all values of N larger than 2, i.e. N > = 3, we find that the resonance is
suppressed.

In this talk we present a LWR-like model for traffic flow on networks which allows one to track
several groups of drivers, each of them being characterized only by their destination in the
network. The path actually followed to reach the destination is not assigned a priori, and can be
chosen by the drivers during the journey, taking decisions at junctions. The model is then used to
describe three possible behaviors of drivers, associated to three different ways to solve the route
choice problem: 1. Drivers ignore the presence of the other vehicles; 2. Drivers react to the
current distribution of traffic, but they do not forecast what will happen at later times; 3.
Drivers take into account the current and future distribution of vehicles. Notice that, in the
latter case, we enter the field of differential games, and, if a solution exists, it likely
represents a global equilibrium among drivers. Numerical simulations highlight the differences
between the three behaviors and suggest the existence of multiple Wardrop's equilibria. Joint work

This talk reports on a joint work with Gian Pietro Pirola about periodic surfaces, i.e. compact
connected Riemann surfaces of genus g > 2 admitting a conformal minimal immersion into a flat
3-dimensional real torus. By Generalized Weierstrass Representation, each periodic surface admists a
certain spin structure with at least two global sections. Depending on the parity of the number of
sections, we give a description of the locus of periodic surfaces in the moduli space M_g, and we
prove the existence into any flat real 3-torus of countably many immersed periodic surfaces of genus
g. These results are a byproduct of our analysis of the subcanonical locus in the moduli space
M_[g,1], which parameterizes complex projective curves C of genus g endowed with a point p such that
(2g-2)p is a canonical divisor of C. In particular, we provide a lower bound on the dimension of the
subloci having h^0(C,(g-1)p) > r and the same parity as r+1, and we prove its sharpness for low
values of r.
