illustrerò diversi aspetti legati in particolare all'esistenza e unicità di soluzioni

How materials respond to external loads is really a new discovery. This is since we now understand
that beyond linear Hookès law response what happens needs to be described by non-equilibrium
statistical mechanics. I will show and discuss some examples of recent progress, from
brittle fracture to fracture statistics to plasticity of crystalline solids. But above all I will
point out some open problems.

Seminario di Equazioni Differenziali
In this talk, we study the invariant sets of the boundary value problem of the classical nonlinear
heat equation. Introducing new idea, we show that there are two sets W and Z such that when the
initial data is in W, there is a global positive solution and when the initial data is in Z, the
solution has finite time blow up.

Weyl semimetals are three dimensional fermionic systems whose Fermi surface is point-like and admit
an effective low energy description in terms of massless Dirac particles in D=3+1. We rigorously
investigate the equilibrium correlations at zero temperature in presence of an Hubbard interaction,
establishing the absence of quantum instabilities. Such systems, with Graphene and Fermi liquids
with asymmetric Fermi surfaces, are the only examples in which the ground state properties of
interacting fermions in d > 1 can be rigorously investigated. With respect to graphene, Weyl
semimetals pose a substantial new difficulties; the Fermi velocity becomes arbitrarily small at the
boundary of the semimetallic phase, corresponding to a strong coupling regime in the effective
description.

We consider a finite dimensional algebra given by a quiver with relations whose module cateogory
admits an involutive self-duality. We consider the self dual rappresentations and we look at the
grassmannians of isotropic submodules of a fixed dimension vector. We call these varieties isotropic
quiver Grassmannians. We will provide a tangent space formula for such varieties and we deduce some
interesting properties in some special cases. We hence realize degenerate flag varieties of type C,
in this way, finding another proof of results of Feigin-Fourier-Littelmann. This is a joint project
(still ongoing) with E. Feigin and M. Reineke.

Replacing linear diffusion by a degenerate diffusion of porous medium type is known to regularize
the classical two-dimensional parabolic-elliptic Keller-Segel model as in Calvez-Carrillo JMPA2006.
The implications of nonlinear diffusion are that solutions exist globally and are uniformly bounded
in time. We analyse the stationary case showing the existence of a unique, up to translation, global
minimizer of the associated free energy. Furthermore, we prove that this global minimizer is a
radially decreasing compactly supported continuous density function which is smooth inside its
support, and it is characterized as the unique compactly supported stationary state of the evolution
model. This unique profile is the clear candidate to describe the long time asymptotics of the
diffusion dominated classical Keller-Segel model for general initial data. This is a joint work with
Josè Antonio Carrillo and Bruno Volzone.

I tè di matematica
In 1992 a theoretical astrophysicist, V.Perlick posed the following question: "What are the most
general systems, autonomous and with radial symmetry, that satisfy Bertrand Theorem" He gave the
answer as well, exhibiting two multi-parametric families of systems of such type that do the job. Of
course, he had to relax the hypothesis of living in a flat space, and identified both the conformal
factor characterizing the metric and the corresponding potential in the Hamiltonian. In the present
talk, after a terse review of Perlick's results, I will consider in detail two prototype systems,
both at the classical and at the quantum level, the Darboux III and the Taub-Nut system, that in
fact provide simple exactly solvable examples of a generalisation of the Harmonic Oscillator and the
Kepler Coulomb systems to spaces of nonconstant curvature. At the end I will outline some possibly
interesting open problems.

Seminario P(n): Problemi differenziali non lineari
Here we study asymptotic behavior of the solutions associated to the fractional Brezis-Nirenberg
problem as well as those related to the least energy solution for the Sobolev embedding in bouneded
domains. As a result, we deduce analogous results of Han (1991) and Rey (1990).
Ore 14:30, Aula 211, Università di Roma III
Seminario di Geometria
This talk is mainly based on a joint work with Gavril Farkas. Using vector bundles techniques and
degenerations to nodal curves, we prove that the shape of the minimal resolution of the homogeneous
ideal of a linearly normal projective K3 surface is completely determined by the geometry of
hyperplane sections.

In generale
