Recent advances on theory and applications
of Semi-Lagrangian methods

Rome, December 5-6, 2011

Semi-Lagrangian methods are a generalization of the classical method of characteristics, proposed originally by Courant, Isaacson and Rees. These methods have been developed independently for applications in numerical weather prediction, computational fluid dynamics and plasma physics. They are very appealing for all advection dominated problems, because they are stable and accurate also at large Courant numbers. In this workshop, we would like to bring together scientists working on the further development and analysis of these methods to discuss a number of topics related to the theory and applications.

The workshop is sponsored by:
-   GNCS - INdAM - 2011 "Sviluppi teorici ed applicativi dei metodi semi-Lagrangiani"
-   Progetto Ateneo 2010 "Analisi ed approssimazione di modelli differenziali nonlineari in fluidodinamica e scienza dei materiali"

Tutorial:
We plan to organize a tutorial on semi-Lagrangian schemes on Monday morning, December 5, starting at 9.30.
Three lectures will be given by R. Ferretti and L. Bonaventura giving an introduction to the techniques, the models and some applications.
The tutorial will take place with a minimum of 5 registered participants (send a message to carlini@mat.uniroma1.it to register BEFORE NOVEMBER 20).
